Beyond the Typical Network
Some organizations have wireless needs that go far beyond a router and a few access points. Multi-building campuses, segregated user networks, emergency systems, and split locations all require a level of planning, engineering, and execution that most IT providers aren’t equipped to deliver.
AO IT Consulting has built a track record of solving exactly these challenges. The following two projects demonstrate what’s possible when wireless infrastructure is designed with purpose.
PROJECT 01 — Summer Camp: 13 Acres, 12+ Buildings, Zero Dead Spots
|
Campus Size 13 Acres |
Buildings 12+ Mixed Construction |
Networks 3 Separate VLANs |
Priority System Emergency Alerting |
A summer camp with 13 acres of land and more than a dozen buildings — log cabin, metal-framed, and wood-framed construction — came to AO IT with a clear mandate: wireless coverage everywhere on campus, with no dead spots, for everyone from campers to staff to their emergency alerting system.
The challenge wasn’t just scale. It was complexity. Different building materials present different RF propagation challenges. Outdoor distances between structures required careful access point placement. And the network itself needed to serve three distinct user groups with very different access requirements.
|
📶 Three-Network Architecture • Restricted network for campers — content filtering and access controls in place • Private staff network — secure access to internal resources • Priority network reserved for the emergency alerting system — guaranteed bandwidth and availability |
To ensure the network stayed alive even when individual components failed, AO IT built in full redundancy and automatic failover. A downed link or failed access point would not take down the network — traffic would reroute seamlessly, keeping every building connected and the emergency alerting system online at all times.
The speed and coverage improvement over the previous implementation were dramatic. The camp now operates with confidence that their network — and their emergency systems — will be there when they need them.
PROJECT 02 — Church Campus: Two Buildings, One Network, Hundreds in Monthly Savings
|
Campus 2 Locations, 2 Blocks Apart |
Bridge Point-to-Point Wireless |
Networks Public WiFi + Private VLAN |
Savings Hundreds Per Month |
A local church had a split campus: their main office and staff offices were located two blocks away from their sanctuary. The two buildings were operating on separate internet connections, creating unnecessary cost and complexity — and their security system required its own dedicated connection at the sanctuary, adding even more monthly expense.
AO IT designed and implemented a point-to-point wireless bridge connecting the two buildings, then built out a network architecture that served multiple user groups on a single internet connection:
- Public WiFi network available to congregation members and visitors at the sanctuary
- Private VLAN for staff giving employees secure access to internal church resources from either location
- Security system integrated across the wireless bridge — eliminating the need for a second dedicated internet connection entirely
|
💰 The Business Case By running the security system across the wireless bridge instead of a dedicated internet connection, the church eliminated the second monthly base charge entirely — saving hundreds of dollars every month. The infrastructure paid for itself quickly. |
|
“We didn’t just get better WiFi — we got a smarter network. AO IT found a way to connect our buildings, serve our staff and congregation, and cut our monthly costs at the same time.” — Church Leadership, AO IT Consulting Client |
Combined Project Highlights
|
13 Acres Of summer camp campus covered with zero dead zones |
3 VLANs Separate networks serving campers, staff, and emergency alerting |
100s/mo In monthly savings for the church by eliminating a redundant internet connection |
The AO IT Difference
These projects share a common thread: organizations with real-world complexity that needed more than a standard solution. Multi-building campuses, mixed user populations, safety-critical systems, and split locations all require an IT partner who thinks beyond the hardware and designs with purpose.
AO IT Consulting brings enterprise-level wireless expertise to organizations of every size — whether you’re a summer camp, a church, a business, or anything in between. We design networks that are fast, secure, redundant, and built to grow with you.
